West New York Skatepark Overview

Located just on the other side of the Hudson River from Manhattan in New Jersey, the West New York Skatepark offers a local skate spot nestled in a heavily wooded park. If you drove past the area, you would never know that there was a skatepark there.

The park itself is only 6,000 square feet, however, thanks to the creative minds at Spohn Ranch, many elements were woven together to create a unique and practical skate experience. This park is the perfect place for intermediate to advanced skaters to refine their skills and focus on their style. Some of the obstacles may be a little more difficult for new skaters, however, skaters of all skill levels are encouraged to enjoy the park.

The skatepark is laid out in a basic rectangular shape with quarter pipes at both of the far ends of the park. There is a small street plaza section in the middle as well as a mini-ramp and volcano. If you need to focus on your street skills, the street plaza section has two different hubbas and two different flat rails to choose from.

Additionally, there is a small manual pad with grindable edges.

Here’s a flyover video of the park from Spohn Ranch:

To practice your grinds and slides on these various street elements, you can use the roll-in for a quick boost of speed then plant your feet and pop up onto one of the hubbas or grind one of the rails. Beyond these obstacles is one of the quarterpipes that you can use to turnaround on.

Another element of the skatepark that many people enjoy is the mini-ramp. The mini-ramp is positioned in a way that you can either only skate the ramp, or you could go between the second quarterpipe and the open bowl portion of the mini-ramp. Think of it as a large open bowl with a horseshoe shape at one end and a quarterpipe on the other. In the middle of the open area, there is a rounded volcano.

Although the West New York Skatepark is well-designed, it is better to think of the park as a few different elements patched together where you can focus on specific skills and tricks using specific obstacles. The park does not have an overall flow where you can seamlessly go from one end of the park to the other, throwing together a complete run of different trick combinations.

The West New York Skatepark is open from 6 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week, and as weather permits.
