Skatepark Overview
Stewart Heights Skatepark has long been a neighborhood staple on Tacoma’s East Side, offering a primarily street-focused layout since its construction in 2008. The original design featured ledges, rails, banks, and open concrete ideal for beginners and intermediate riders, but lacked a true bowl—a gap that local skaters had been eager to see filled.

That upgrade is now underway. In 2025, Metro Parks Tacoma began construction on a new 2,250-square-foot concrete bowl, designed by Grindline Skateparks. The bowl ranges from 4 to 6 feet deep and introduces much-needed transition terrain to the park, transforming Stewart Heights into a more versatile spot for all riding styles.

The bowl project is part of a broader revitalization effort at Stewart Heights Park and represents the first skate-specific investment by the city in more than a decade. Funded through voter-approved bonds and a Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office grant, the expansion reflects strong community advocacy and growing support for skateboarding and action sports in Tacoma.
When the new bowl opens in 2026, Stewart Heights Skatepark will serve as a more complete destination for riders—balancing street lines with quality transition features, and continuing its role as an accessible, central hub for the Tacoma skate community.
