Young’s Park Skatepark Overview
Young’s Park Skatepark is located about 45-minutes southeast of Des Moines and just south of Lake Red Rock in the small town of Knoxville, Iowa.
The skatepark is conveniently located in the center of town on North Lincoln Street just a few blocks from West Elementary School and the Knoxville High Schol and Middle School. The location of the skatepark makes it easily accessible to the youth of Knoxville as well as the general public.
Many skaters have expressed that they love the split-section bowl design with 4-foot and 6-foot sections. Additionally, the bowl is well-positioned to allow a skater to transition out of the bowl and flow effortlessly into the street section to hit a rail or grind a ledge.
The street section of the park flows on both sides of the bowl area where there is a quarter pipe at the end of one side of the street course and a bank ramp on the other. Use the quarter pipe or the bank ramp to increase momentum before choosing whether you want to grind a ledge, clear some stairs, or hit a rail.
The Young’s Park Skatepark was designed and constructed by the Spohn Ranch team and opened in 2018. The park was built to replace the aging collection of wood and metal ramps that were managed by the Knoxville Recreation Center.
The Spohn Ranch design team decidedly designed the park to cater to skaters with a wide range of skill levels and skate styles while paying close attention to the younger demographic that dominates the overall population in the city of Knoxville.
The design team wanted to design a park that was accessible to all but that was also challenging enough that as the skaters become older and more skillful, they did not grow bored or tired of a park that was beneath their skill levels.
The Young’s Park Skatepark is part of the larger Young’s Park that contains plenty of parking, baseball fields, picnic areas, restroom facilities, and a playground, making the entire area a family-friendly place that has something for every member of the family.
