Skatepark Overview
When you first skate into the Northside Skatepark, you will roll in on an elevated platform with many different directions you can go. Take a sharp left and you will go directly to the combi bowl.
The bowl contains various depths as well as the shape of three interconnected square lobes with rounded corners. The shape and size of the bowl are convenient as it allows multiple skaters to skate at the same time.
If you decide to go straight, then you have a small manual pad that leads into a downhill bank or a small stair set with a handrail. Choose one of those options or skip over both of them and roll down the bank.
The downhill bank takes you directly to a volcano with an elongated cylindric mound. Either hit the volcano or bypass it to drop into a snake run with a circular bowl at the end. Pop out the bowl at the end of the snake run and you can drop in directly into the large three-part bowl.
If you decide to go right at the entrance, you then can roll into the large skate plaza section of the park. In the center of the skate plaza, there is a gigantic pyramid/funbox with multiple ledges and grindable edges with coping. The pyramid also has banks going in every direction that leads to other parts of the skate plaza.
For example, surrounding the gigantic pyramid/fun box are several different stair sets of various sizes complete with handrails and hubbas with grindable coping. There are also a few different kickers that can launch you up to some elevated ledges and flat rails.
At the far end of the skate plaza, you will find a large elevated platform that is a great place for freestyle skateboarders to practice their skills. Just watch out for other skaters who may be dropping in from the quarterpipe wall at the far end to gain some speed before hitting one of the stair sets, hubbas, or handrails.
The Northside Skatepark in Norfolk, Virginia is open from sunrise to sunset 7 days a week.
